Minister of Culture of Ukraine Tkachenko: the idea of renaming Russia should be evaluated by experts
The initiative to rename Russia into Muscovy was commented by the Minister of Culture of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko on the air of the All-Ukrainian telethon. He called the idea interesting, but experts should evaluate it.
“We will talk to experts. It’s obvious that [предложение переименовать Россию в Московию] has a historical basis… It is obvious that here it is necessary to consult with experts, I like this idea, but the experts should have their say,” said the Ukrainian Minister of Culture.
The petition to rename Russia to Muscovy received the necessary number of votes on the website of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky so that it could be submitted for official consideration. The document was signed by 25 thousand people. The authors of the initiative propose to change the name of the country “Russia” and “Russian Federation” to “Muscovy” and “Moscow Federation”.
Zelensky on March 11 instructed the government to “carefully consider” the possibility of renaming Russia. It is necessary to study the historical and cultural international legal aspects of this issue.
