Hamas: Negotiations with Israel do not serve Palestinian interests. Palestinian movement Hamas believes that proposals from mediators for temporary ceasefire with Israel. And partial prisoner exchanges do not meet Palestinian needs, source within Hamas leadership told media.
“Delegation has heard ideas from Egyptian and Qatari mediators about temporary ceasefire for limited number of days. Increasing humanitarian aid truck deliveries. And a partial prisoner exchange during that time. These proposals do not include complete cessation of aggression, withdrawal of occupation forces from Gaza Strip, or the return of refugees,” source said.
“These proposals do not address our people’s needs for security, stability, rescue efforts, and restoration, especially for the Rafah crossing,” he added.
According to source, Palestinian people seek “complete, comprehensive, and permanent ceasefire. Full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, return of displaced persons, and lifting of the blockade.”
Hamas also emphasizes the need to first meet basic Palestinian needs for food, housing, medicine. And infrastructure recovery in Gaza before discussing serious agreements on prisoner exchanges aimed at alleviating the suffering of Palestinian detainees and ending their unjust detention.
“Hamas remains open to any ideas and negotiations to achieve these goals. And implement UN Security Council resolution 2735,” concluded the source.
Earlier, Arab media reported that during talks in Qatar over the weekend. CIA Director William Burns proposed 28-day ceasefire in Gaza to facilitate deal for the exchange of eight Israeli captives for dozens of Palestinian detainees.
