Guru Purnima 2021: Ashadh-Guru Purnima will be celebrated on 24 July 2021 (Saturday) across the country. In Sanatan Dharma, bathing and donating in the Ganges on the full moon day is considered very auspicious and fruitful. It is believed that Maharishi Ved Vyas, the author of the Vedas, was born on the date of Ashadha Purnima.
Guru Puja is performed on the day of Guru Purnima for centuries on the birth of Maharishi Ved Vyas. Guru Purnima is also known as Vyas Purnima. The total number of Puranas in Hinduism is 18. The author of all these is Maharishi Ved Vyas.
Even in the scriptures itself, the place of Guru has been described as God, because it is the Guru who increases the knowledge of a person. It is only by the path and knowledge shown by the Guru that a person climbs the ladder of success by removing all the darkness coming from time to time in his life. That is why the importance of Guru Purnima also increases.
The full moon date will start from 10.43 am on Friday, 23 July 2021, and will last till 08.06 am on Saturday, 24 July 2021.
In all religions, the place of Guru is considered the highest. According to many mythological beliefs, the great sage Ved Vyas ji, the author of Mahabharata, was born on the day of Guru Purnima, which is why Guru Purnima is also called Vyas Purnima. On this day people worship sage Ved Vyas ji as well as worship their guru, Ishta and adorable deities, and get their blessings. This festival has been celebrated as a tradition since the time of Gurukul.
This year, on Guru Purnima, Vishkumbh Yoga will be held till 06.12 in the morning, Preeti Yoga till 03.16 in the morning of July 25 and after that Ayushman Yoga will take place. In astrology, the formation of Preeti and Ayushman Yoga together is considered auspicious. Success is achieved in the work done in Preeti and Ayushman Yoga. Vishkumbh yoga is not counted among the auspicious yogas in Vedic astrology.
According to astrology, worshiping with betel leaves, coconut water, modak, camphor, clove, cardamom on Guru Purnima gives desired results.
It is said that bathing in the Ganges provides benefits in asthma and skin diseases.
On the day of Guru Purnima, chanting Vedic mantras and reciting Vishnu Sahasranama gives special grace to the Guru.
It is believed that donating kheer on the night of Guru Purnima gives mental peace. Also, the effect of the moon planet is also removed.
Vriksharaj (Banyan) was given life by the boon of Yagyavalya Rishi. That is why the banyan tree is also worshiped on Guru Purnima.
