The court left the director of the Solikamsk magnesium plant Artur Urtaev under house arrest. The preventive measure will be in effect for another two months.
“The Sverdlovsk District Court left Artur Urtaev, acting general director of Solikamsk Magnesium Plant OJSC, under house arrest until December 7, for a total of five months. The investigation into the case of embezzlement of the plant’s money has been extended for the same period, the accused is charged with embezzlement,” Properm reported.
Artur Urtaev tried to change the measure of restraint from house arrest to recognizance not to leave, or at least to allow walks, because his health was deteriorating. However, the defendant was denied.
The investigation into the case began in May. According to investigators, Artur Urtaev issued a loan in the amount of 250 million rubles to the former shareholder of the plant, Igor Pestrikov, without the decision of the board of shareholders. Igor Pestrikov is now on the wanted list. Investigators regard Urtaev’s actions as embezzlement on an especially large scale. Urtaev was detained and placed in a pre-trial detention center. Later, the measure of restraint was changed for him.
