As Ramadan approaches people of Gaza are making preparations despite immense challenges. A ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement have been in effect since January 19 yet the crisis is far from over.

Food shortages, lack of shelter and a fragile healthcare system continue to make life difficult after prolonged conflict. Still, Gazans remain determined to observe Ramadan in best way possible.

Fifteen months of relentless bombings have left much of Gaza in ruins. Even so, residents are decorating the devastated city with banners and flags. With unity and hope in their hearts, they are lighting up buildings with colorful decorations.
For many these preparations symbolize peace and spiritual strength amid hardship. Streets are being adorned traditional foods are being prepared and walls across city display words “Ramadan Kareem.”
A report by TRT highlights how Gazans are visiting markets to buy lanterns and essential items for the holy month. Many also seen making knafeh and qatayef sweets enjoyed during Ramadan.

Families are determined to preserve their spiritual traditions, despite financial struggles. However, for those who have lost their homes, celebrating Ramadan as before nearly impossible.
According to Gaza’s government media office around 1.5 million Palestinians have been displaced due to bombings. Local shopkeeper Hossam Al-Azuz shared that past Ramadans were far more lively, but now the situation has changed drastically.
He describes an atmosphere of pain where people struggle to afford necessities markets remain quiet, and power outages add to the difficulties.

Even with these hardships spirit of Ramadan shines in Gaza. People continue to hold on to faith, resilience and hope for a peaceful future.
