French actor Jean-Louis Trintignant dies


French actor Jean-Louis Trintignant has died at the age of 91. The agent’s statement, which was obtained by AFP, said that Mr. Trintignant died in the early hours of June 17 at his home in the Gard region of southern France, “surrounded by his loved ones.”

Jean-Louis Trintignant has starred in such classic films as Krzysztof Kieślowski’s Three Colours: Red, Costa-Gavras’ Zeta (Z) and Bernardo Bertolucci’s The Conformist. In Russia, he is known for the dilogy “A Man and a Woman” – a painting by Claude Lelouch, where Jean-Louis Trintignant played with Anouk Aimé.

He has received several significant awards, including the Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival for his performance in Zeta. The film “A Man and a Woman”, in which Mr. Trintignant played, received the Grand Prix of the Cannes Film Festival, as well as two Oscars – for the best foreign film and for the best original screenplay.
