Former President of Kyrgyzstan Atambaev released from prison ahead of schedule

Former President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambaev has left the penal colony where he served his term. He spent 3.5 years in prison.

Companions, relatives, friends and correspondents were waiting for him at the walls of colony No. 27 in Moldovanovka. In a conversation with reporters, Atambayev said that he plans to leave for Spain for treatment.

“I need urgent treatment, but I’ll be back as always. I’ll be back,” Atambaev said.

How writes Kaktus.media, citing Atambaev’s lawyers, the Judicial Collegium of the Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan overturned Atambaev’s sentence in the case of crime boss Aziz Batukaev due to “newly discovered circumstances.” The case will be remanded for retrial.
