Former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is currently in India and plans to return to Bangladesh when the caretaker government announces the dates for the upcoming elections. This information was shared by her son, Sajib Wazed, who resides in the United States.
Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has been sworn in as the head of the caretaker government in Bangladesh, which is responsible for overseeing the election process.
Sajib Wazed expressed gratitude to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for “saving the life” of his mother, Sheikh Hasina.
The article highlights ongoing protests and demonstrations in Dhaka and across Bangladesh, sparked by the Students’ Movement Against Discrimination. The unrest has escalated into riots, leading Sheikh Hasina and her sister to leave their official residence for safety.
“She is currently in India. She will return to Bangladesh when the caretaker government decides to hold elections in the country,” the Times of India newspaper quotes Wazed as saying.
Wazed previously told Bloomberg that his mother did not intend to return to Bangladesh and discouraged other family members from returning amid the current political instability.
