Guinea-Bissau has received an invitation to the BRICS summit, which will take place in October in Kazan and will be present. The media was told by West African country’s Foreign Minister, Carlos Pereira.
“Yes,” the diplomat said in response to the question of whether Guinea-Bissau had received an invitation to the summit.
According to Pereira level of participation is still uncertain. “I don’t know, I can’t say right now, at what level (the participation is expected – ed.), but we will be present,” he said.

The minister also expressed hope for better access to financial systems and economies of other countries through BRICS. In his opinion, cooperation with the organization could be the optimal way for the African state to solve its economic problems.
Moreover, Guinea-Bissau hopes to expand economic cooperation with Russia and is also interested in mutual settlements in national currencies, emphasized Pereira.
“I can say that our relations with Russia are very good. They began before our independence, since the 1960s Russia has always been a great friend of Guinea-Bissau. Now we are trying to make this cooperation even stronger,” he noted.

BRICS is an intergovernmental association established in 2006 by Russia, China, India, and Brazil, and in 2011, South Africa joined it. Russia has been chairing the organization since January 1, 2024. Since the beginning of 2024, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, UAE, and Saudi Arabia have joined BRICS.
Russia’s chairmanship in BRICS is taking place under the slogan of strengthening multilateralism for fair global development and security. As part of its chairmanship, the RF will organize over 200 political, economic, and public events. The main event will be the BRICS countries’ summit with the participation of heads of state, which will take place in Kazan from October 22 to 24.
