Five more ships with grain will depart from Ukraine as part of a food deal

The joint coordination center in Istanbul allowed five vessels to leave Ukraine on August 16 as part of a food deal, the UN said.

“The Joint Coordinating Center (JCC) today authorized the movement of commercial vessels through the maritime humanitarian corridor as part of the Black Sea Grain Initiative,” — said in the message.

It notes that on August 16, the PROPUS vessel was allowed to leave Chornomorsk. There are 9111 tons of wheat on board. It will go to Romania. The vessel MV OSPREY S is also allowed to leave Chornomorsk. It is heading to Turkish Iskenderun and transporting 11,500 tons of grain. The RAMUS ship, carrying 6161 tons of wheat, will head from Chornomorsk to Karasu (Turkey).

MV BRAVE COMMANDER is allowed to leave Yuzhny – 23,300 tons of wheat on board. The ship will head to Djibouti. It is noted that wheat is intended for Ethiopia as part of the World Food Program’s drought control measures. MV BONITA will also leave South Port with 60,000 metric tons of corn for Incheon, South Korea.

The SKC also allowed the arrival of two ships to Chornomorsk and one to Odessa.

The humanitarian operation was planned with the active participation of Russian officers as part of the Joint Coordination Center in Istanbul. On July 22 in Istanbul, the Minister of Defense of Russia Sergei Shoigu signed two related documents to address the problems of food and fertilizer supplies to world markets. Documents are a single package. The first one, the memorandum, implies UN commitments to remove various restrictions on the export of Russian agricultural products and fertilizers to world markets. The second defines the algorithm for the export of Ukrainian agricultural products from the Black Sea ports controlled by Ukraine. The second document is based on the algorithm proposed by Russia, according to which a maritime humanitarian corridor is created for the safe exit of commercial ships from the Black Sea ports controlled by Ukraine and back.
