Celebrations on New Year’s Eve in Germany took a tragic turn. At least five people lost their lives, and more than fifty were injured due to incidents related to fireworks.
In cities like Hamburg, Brandenburg, and, individuals attempting to ignite homemade fireworks caused explosions leading to fatalities and injuries. In Berlin clashes between police and individuals violating firework bans left 15 injured and resulted in the arrest of 400 people.

A significant fire broke out in a multi-story building’s garage in Berlin’s Kreuzberg area. Several cars parked inside were destroyed. Wedding district a critical water pipeline burst disrupting the city’s water supply.
Burst pipeline located under a major road caused severe disruptions in public transport, halting trams and other vehicles. Officials suspect the age of the pipeline installed in 1924 or heavy traffic above it as possible reasons for the damage.
Despite these challenges Berlin authorities organized a long-distance marathon to welcome the new year. Starting at the historic Brandenburg Gate marathon saw 4,500 participants.
