At the Junior Grand Prix in Samara, 16-year-old figure skater Varvara Medvedeva fell on the ice while supporting her partner. She was taken to the hospital for examination, reports TASS.
On published the Telegram recording shows how partner Pavel Astakhov holds Medvedeva in support with outstretched arms; during the second rotation, she goes too far behind the young man’s back, his arm bends, and the skater, leaving the support, does not land on her partner’s shoulder. She falls backwards onto the ice and hits her head. After Medvedeva falls, she gets up on her own.
As told “RIA News” The figure skater’s coach Philip Tarasov, a CT scan was done at Medvedeva’s hospital, no serious injuries were found. The figure skater had a minor cut on her head, but they decided not to apply stitches.
The fifth stage of the Grand Prix takes place from November 15 to 19 in Samara. Medvedeva and Astakhov were third after the short program. The couple was able to complete the program and took fifth place with a score of 158.37 points.
