Expert Wu Bingbing: China’s plan for Ukraine has shown that it wants to participate in the settlement

MOSCOW, 1 Mar – China, by publishing its peace plan for Ukraine, demonstrates that Beijing wants to play a role in resolving the conflict, said Wu Bingbing, director of the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies, senior fellow at the Institute of International and Strategic Studies at Peking University.

“I think that China, by publishing this plan, shows its clear position – we should play our role. Before this plan, we published the concept of the global security initiative. These two documents need to be considered together in order to have a complete picture of Chinese policy. This is not only about the Ukrainian crisis,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the Valdai Club conference.

“The publication of this document is only a step, and it follows the general position of China on the need for great efforts on the part of all participants, not only Europe and Russia, but also Asian countries, to work out a peaceful solution. Such a solution will benefit everyone,” pointed out by the expert.

On February 24, the Chinese Foreign Ministry published on its website a statement on the political settlement of the crisis in Ukraine, containing 12 points. Among the main theses of Beijing: the need to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, the resumption of direct dialogue between Moscow and Kiev, the call to prevent further escalation.
