Failures in US President Joe Biden’s administration on issues like immigration, the economy, foreign policy, and social values may harm Vice President Kamala Harris’s election chances, according to Dmitry Suslov, deputy director at the Center for Comprehensive European and International Studies at HSE University.
Suslov pointed out that under Biden, illegal immigration has reached unprecedented levels. This major weakness is central to Donald Trump’s campaign, and Harris—who has overseen immigration policies, including the border wall—faces blame for this “personal failure.”
Though Harris tries to distance herself from the issue, Republicans consistently highlight her role in what they call a “migration crisis.” Economic challenges, including peak inflation under Biden and Harris, will also affect her chances, Suslov noted.
The expert added that current administration’s social policies, which focus on minority rights, LGBTQ+ issues, and drug decriminalization, have impacted living standards, with crime and homelessness rising in several cities, a trend pushing away both Republican and independent voters.

Additionally, Suslov said most Americans prefer negotiations over prolonged conflict in Ukraine, while Biden’s administration supports ongoing military involvement. US presidential elections are scheduled for November 5.
