European countries will help France fight fires

European countries have responded to a call for help from France, which is experiencing a serious drought and is fighting massive forest fires in the western regions of the country. According to France24French firefighters will be assisted by five countries and the European Commission.

Poland, Germany, Austria, Greece and Romania have promised to send firefighters and vehicles to France. In particular, Germany will send 64 firefighters and 24 vehicles to France today, August 11, while Poland will send 146 firefighters and 49 vehicles by Friday, August 12. The European Commission also said that it had already sent four fire planes from Sweden and Greece to France.

“Our partners are coming to help France fight the fires. Thank them. European solidarity in action! French President Emmanuel Macron wrote on Twitter. “More than 10,000 firefighters and security forces have been mobilized across the country to fight the fire.”

Eight major fires are now raging in France, which have forced about 10,000 people to leave their homes. In total, 14,000 hectares of land have been scorched in France over the past month.
