EU resumes talks to lift sanctions on Iran
This was stated by the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell, Ukrinform reports with reference to Reuters.
In his opinion, during the consultations between his representative and Iranian officials in Tehran this week, sufficient progress was made to resume nuclear negotiations after a two-month stalemate.
Borrell also noted that Iran’s reaction to the resumption of negotiations was quite positive. The outline of an agreement aimed at resurrecting an agreement that would curb Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for exemptions from economic sanctions was essentially agreed in March.
Foreign Secretary Iran Hossein Amirabdollahyan stressed that an agreement is within reach, as long as the United States makes the right political decision and sticks to its obligations.
Recall that negotiations to lift the sanctions were terminated in March due to the fact that Tehran insisted on the exclusion of the “Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps” from the US list of terrorist organizations.
