The government intends to win over Kurdish votes ahead of the elections. Turkish media reports
The Kemalist newspaper Cumhuriyet reported that officials of the ruling Justice and Development Party were given a signal to take new steps towards Kurdish voters in order to attract the religious Kurdish electorate:
“We need to listen very carefully to the regional deputies and bring the religious Kurds back to our side. These steps must not be taken in defiance of the MHP (Nationalist Movement Party – ed.). It is necessary to nominate the right candidates for deputies, to work on the discourse, to prevent misinterpretations…”.
EADaily recalls that the Kurds are the main ethnic minority in Turkey: their number, according to various estimates, can reach up to 20-25 million people.
