The Ukrainian National Commission for State Regulation in the Spheres of Energy and Utilities (NKREKU) has officially proposed to double the electricity tariffs in the country. This is stated in a letter from the department to the Ministry of Energy, informs portal “Energoreforma”.
“NEURC proposes to amend the provision on imposing special obligations to ensure the availability of electricity for household consumers from June 1, 2023 with the introduction of the first stage of electricity price adjustment using a single price without differentiation by consumption volumes at the level of 2.88 hryvnia per kWh” , — says in a letter to the Ministry of Energy signed by Kaidash.
According to the regulator, thanks to the changes, it will be possible to increase the financial performance of the Ukrainian state-owned companies Energoatom and Ukrhydroenergo. The source of the publication said that the government is very likely to support the proposal.
Currently, residents of Ukraine pay for electricity at 1.68 hryvnias (3.59 rubles) per kilowatt-hour when consuming more than 250 kWh per month, and 1.44 hryvnias (3.08 rubles) if they consume less.
Earlier, the head of the NEURC, Konstantin Ushchapovsky, had already announced a two-fold increase in tariffs. According to him, about $1.2 billion is needed to carry out emergency repairs of the energy infrastructure, as well as in connection with the renewal and preparation for the autumn-winter maximum.
