During his election campaign Trump had promised to lower prices of essential goods upon returning to power. 12 days into his presidency price of eggs in US has not dropped causing public dissatisfaction. Trump administration blames Biden’s economic policies for market inflation.

According to White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt, Biden administration is responsible for egg shortage due to the mass culling of chickens during its tenure.

She claimed that under Biden over 100 million chickens were culled leading to shortages in poultry and eggs, which drove up prices.
Levitt avoided mentioning that the culling done to stop the spread of highly contagious avian influenza. US laws and USDA regulations require the elimination of infected poultry to prevent disease outbreaks.
The same policy existed during Trump’s first term, meaning that the mass culling under Biden was in line with previous regulations.

Experts argue that while avian influenza played a role in the egg crisis, inflation and supply chain issues also contributed to rising prices.
