Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa, 36, has publicly accused Vice President Veronica Abad of betrayal, claiming she is attempting to remove him from power and prevent him from participating in the upcoming elections.
Noboa made these allegations on his X account. He pointed out that Abad’s actions are part of a larger conspiracy supported by other political figures.
Noboa’s allegations followed a complaint filed by Vice President Abad at the Electoral Disputes Tribunal. where she accused him of gender-based political violence and demanded his removal from office. If his complaint is upheld,. Noboya could face a four-year ban from holding political office.
In his X account, he presented four points, “1. Attempt to remove from office and suspend participation rights. 2. Oswaldo Trujillo, Verónica Abad’s sponsoring lawyer, defender of the mafias. 3.Support for the attempted coup d’état. 4. Voting by the parties that did not allow the vice president’s immunity to be lifted.”
Tensions between the President and Vice President have been escalating. Earlier this year, the Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry took action against Abad after she criticized the government following her son’s arrest.
Abad is currently in Israel as a peace ambassador but has openly expressed dissatisfaction with her role, accusing Noboa of wanting her out of the way.
