Easter Sunday, one of the most sacred days in Christianity, marked the celebration of Jesus Christ’s resurrection. From Vatican City to conflict-torn Gaza believers gathered in prayer and reflection, honoring this significant day with solemnity and hope.

Pope Francis appeared on the balcony of St. Peter’s Square, delivering the traditional Urbi et Orbi blessing to thousands of followers. During his address, he called urgently for a ceasefire in Gaza, highlighting the suffering in the region. Earlier in the day, the Pope held a meeting with U.S. Vice President JD Vance, adding a diplomatic tone to the day’s spiritual gravity.
Across Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus, worshippers lit candles and joined in special prayers at the Nativity Church on Saturday night. In Jerusalem Church of the Holy Sepulchre believed to house the site of Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection. Hosted thousands for a purification prayer ceremony under tight security.
However, the day wasn’t free from distress. Many Palestinian Christians voiced frustration reporting they barred from entering churches due to strict restrictions. In Gaza City Easter services held at the Saint Porphyrius Orthodox Church—now serving as a shelter for displaced civilians. The atmosphere there remained solemn, with celebrations limited to prayer.
In the UK, King Charles III and Queen Camilla led the royal family in their annual Easter service at St. George’s Chapel. Elsewhere in Europe countries like Russia and Ukraine observed the holy day with midnight prayers. Including a special vigil at Moscow’s Christ the Savior Cathedral.
Easter, rooted in the belief that Jesus rose from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion, remains central to Christian faith. The events of Good Friday—when Jesus was crucified—are remembered with reverence. Leading up to Easter morning when hope and resurrection are proclaimed.
Despite political tensions and ongoing war in various regions, Easter 2025 brought together millions in unity, prayer, and spiritual reflection—a testament to faith enduring in times of turmoil.
