A British helicopter crashed during an exercise in the English Channel, killing one personnel, according to a social media post by the country’s naval forces.

“With deep regret, we are forced to announce that a naval serviceman died in an incident during last night’s exercise,” the Royal Navy stated.

A full investigation will be conducted to determine the circumstances of the tragedy. It has been clarified that during the joint exercise with the aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth, the Merlin Mk4 helicopter went down in the English Channel near the coast of Dorset County. There are no other reported fatalities or injuries.

Prime Minister and Defense Secretary John Healey have expressed their condolences to the family of the deceased.
