Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer criticized the order arguing that administration lacks the authority to halt approved spending. White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt defended order stating that taxpayer money had been wasted for years without improving citizens’ lives. She insisted Trump was simply following his campaign promises.

At the same time, immigration enforcement intensified. Officials launched raids in New York State, with ICE agents conducting operations across New York City.
