Donald Trump has sent letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei urging discussions on Iran’s nuclear program. During an interview on Fox Business Network on Friday Trump revealed that he had sent this letter to Iranian leaders. However, Iran’s permanent mission to United Nations denied this claim.

Since taking office for his second term President Trump has been actively reshaping political ties with various countries. His efforts have now reached Iran, where previous U.S. leaders also attempted to halt country’s nuclear program. Trump appears to be following the same path.

In interview, Donald Trump mentioned that he warned Iran of direct U.S. intervention if they refused to engage in talks. He stressed that cooperation would be in Tehran’s best interest. Despite this Iran’s UN mission stated they were unaware of any such letter.
Back in February, Ayatollah Khamenei expressed doubt about negotiations with the United States, citing past talks as unproductive for Iran.
Moscow recently offered to mediate in discussions about Tehran’s nuclear program emphasizing the need to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

Iran has consistently denied any plans to build nuclear arms. Reports from Reuters suggest that U.S. is planning to inspect Iranian oil tankers navigating through Strait of Malacca and other regions.
