Trump recalled a conversation from 2017 with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, where Kim mentioned having a red button on his desk. Trump responded by saying, “I have a red button too, and it’s bigger than yours. And it works.”
Trump stated he intends to restore relations with Kim Jong-un if re-elected in November. He expressed confidence that Kim “misses him.”
The first-ever US-DPRK summit took place on June 12, 2018, in Singapore. Following the summit, Trump and Kim signed a “detailed” document, and Trump emphasized that denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula would begin quickly.

Kim Jong-un called the signing a “new start” in US-DPRK relations and promised “big changes” in the future.

He claimed to know both leaders very well and committed to ensuring they start negotiations. During election debates on June 27, Trump promised to settle the conflict before his possible re-election and taking the presidential oath on January 20, 2025.
