Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Omsk Region Vladimir Varnavsky died at the age of 76. He worked as speaker of all seven convocations, and was previously deputy chairman of the Federation Council.
The death was announced by Acting Governor Vitaly Khotsenko. The reason is not specified. “Vladimir Alekseevich worked all his life for the benefit of the inhabitants of the Omsk region. His deeds will live forever in the hearts of the inhabitants of the region. This is a great loss for all of us,” Mr. Khotsenko wrote in Telegram.
Mr. Varnavsky was born in 1947 in the Omsk region. Since 1994, he has been elected a deputy of the legislature and chairman of seven convocations. He worked as vice-speaker of the Federation Council in 1996-2002 – at that time, the heads of regions and chairmen of the Zaksobs were members of the upper house of parliament. He was awarded the Order of Honor, the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, IV degree, the Order of Friendship and the Order of Alexander Nevsky. He was elected Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council.
