The admission of Ukraine to the European Union (EU) will mean the end of this political bloc, said Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko. Such a decision, if implemented, will show that the EU “is guided not by some values on the platform of which it was created, but purely by geopolitics,” Mr. Grushko noted.

“If the European Union is real (will include in its composition.— “b”) this is a state where Nazi groups rule the ball and Nazi ideology reigns, which is incompatible with European values, (this.— “b”) will mean the end of the European Union,” the deputy minister told reporters (quoted from TASS).

Alexander Grushko said that Russia “has a clear understanding in which direction the European Union is mimicking.” According to him, the EU “has moved far away from those principles and those aspirations that formed the basis and ideology of the European Union.” This includes overcoming the legacy of the war, as well as the formation of peaceful relations between former opponents, Mr. Grushko recalled. “They talk about rules-based order all the time, we see that order in action. You can steal, illegally seize the assets of other states, impose illegal arbitrary sanctions,” commented the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation on the actions of the EU.

Ukraine applied for EU membership almost immediately after the start of the Russian special military operation. On May 9, Kyiv handed over to the EU the second, last part of the questionnaire, which must be completed in order to obtain candidate status for EU membership.

On May 13, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow had doubts that Ukraine’s accession to the EU would not harm Russia.
