Ukraine’s entry into the European Union will mean the collapse of this international association, said Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko, TASS reports.

According to him, if Ukraine joins the EU, this will mean that the union is guided not by the values on the platform of which it was formed, but purely by geopolitics.

“If the EU is real [включит в свой состав] this is a state where Nazi groups rule the ball and Nazi ideology reigns, which is incompatible with European values, [это] will mean the end of the European Union, ”said the deputy head of the Russian diplomatic department.

The European Union has moved far from its original aspirations: overcoming the legacy of the war and building peaceful relations between former adversaries Germany and France, Grushko said. “They talk about rules-based order all the time, we see that order in action. You can steal, illegally seize the assets of other states, impose illegal arbitrary sanctions,” the diplomat concluded.

At the end of March, the head of the Russian delegation at the talks with Ukraine, Vladimir Medinsky, after the first diplomatic meetings, said that Russia was not against Ukraine’s membership in the European Union, provided that Kyiv refused to join military alliances and would not place foreign military bases on its territory. Later, Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN, said that Russia had changed its position on the issue, and now it is similar to Moscow’s official position on Kyiv’s membership in NATO.
