Defense ministers of South Korea and Cambodia discussed the situation on the Korean Peninsula

Minister of Defense of South Korea Lee Jong subwho is on a visit to Siem Reap, met on November 24 with a Cambodian colleague Thea Banomwith whom he discussed regional security and bilateral cooperation. This is reported by Yonhap News with reference to representatives of the South Korean military department.

During the meeting, the representative of South Korea spoke about the “serious” security situation on the Korean Peninsula, and also expressed gratitude to the government of Cambodia for the fact that the country’s authorities in Southeast Asia called on Pyongyang to comply with the resolutions of the UN Security Council (UNSC).

In turn, Thea Ban noted that Cambodia will continue to apply UN Security Council sanctions against the DPRK, given that North Korean nuclear and missile threats pose a challenge to regional security. He also expressed hope for the early signing of a bilateral agreement, under which the Cambodian military will be able to receive training in the military institutions of South Korea.

Following the meeting, representatives of the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in UN peacekeeping, and also agreed on the supply of South Korean engineering equipment to Cambodia.
