President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, following the meeting of the Headquarters of the Commander-in-Chief, announced a decision on the timing of how Kyiv “will move.” He didn’t specify what he meant. In recent months, Ukraine has been regularly reporting plans to launch a counteroffensive.
“Not only the provision of ammunition, not only the training of new brigades, not only our tactics (were discussed.— “b”). But also timing. This is what is most important. Deadlines as to how we will move. We will. Decisions have been made. I thank every soldier and sergeant, officer and general, every brigade that prepared,” Mr. Zelensky said in a video message posted on his website.
The Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrsky announced the day before, on May 29, plans to launch an offensive in the Liman direction soon. He stated that he had identified tasks for preparing the offensive.
Ukraine had been planning a counteroffensive for several months. Kyiv explained the shift in terms of the lack of weapons. Last week, the head of the main intelligence department of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov, said that the military had already received the minimum weapons necessary to launch a counteroffensive.
