Starting Tuesday Syria’s Damascus Airport will reopen for international flights welcoming air traffic from around the globe according to airport authorities.

Meanwhile, a diplomatic stir has emerged involving Syrian leader Ahmed Al-Sarra after he refrained from shaking hands with Germany’s Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock during her visit to Damascus.
While Al-Sarra greeted French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot with a handshake his refusal to do same with Baerbock reportedly due to religious beliefs sparked widespread debate on social media.
Critics questioned Syria’s stance on women’s rights under the new government while Baerbock stated she was prepared for gesture and was not offended.

In diplomatic talks Ahmed Al-Sarra and Baerbock emphasized the importance of women’s rights in Syria’s reconstruction. Al-Sarra also called on Middle Eastern nations to play a greater role in forming an inclusive government.
