Cyprus undertook to reduce Europe’s dependence on Russian gas – EADaily – Cyprus news. News Cyprus. Cyprus. News. Cyprus today. News of Cyprus. Cyprus latest news. Cyprus news today. News today. Daily News.

The resources of the Eastern Mediterranean can cover 15-16 percent of the EU’s needs for blue fuel in the next 25 years. This was announced by the President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulidis at the Delphi Economic Forum.

Europe’s greatest vulnerability in the context of the Ukrainian crisis, according to Christodoulidis, lies in energy dependence on Russian natural gas. He noted that the Eastern Mediterranean cannot replace it, but may well mitigate the EU’s dependence on Russia.

“We expect more technical and financial support from the European Union so that we can use the potential of the region, which, according to experts, according to those who know better than us, can cover 15-16% of the EU’s needs in the next 25 years with energy resources,” — quoted April 29 RIA News Christodoulides.

Recall that the forum is held from 26 to 29 April in Delphi under the auspices of the President of Greece Katerina Sakellaropoulou.

As previously reported EADaily, the energy crisis in the European Union worsened in July 2022. Then there were interruptions in gas supplies from the Russian Federation, related, among other things, to problems in the maintenance of turbines for the Nord Stream gas pipeline.
