Cuban President Bermudez thanked Russia for help in connection with the fire at the oil storage


    Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez thanked the Russian government and a number of other countries for offering assistance in the situation with a fire at an oil storage facility. He posted the corresponding post on social networks.

    A strong fire began the night before after a lightning strike on the dome of one of the oil storage tanks in the port of the province of Matanzas. According to the regional government, 17 people went missing after the explosion, and another 77 were injured. The firefighting has been going on for days.

    “We express our deep gratitude to the governments of Mexico, Venezuela, Russia, Nicaragua, Argentina and Chile, who promptly offered solidarity material assistance in the face of this difficult situation,” wrote Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez on social networks, thanking the United States “for the technical advice offered.”

    Earlier, Mexican media reported that, at the direction of the head of state, Andres Manuel López Obrador, a team of specialists would be sent to Cuba. It will include employees of the oil and gas corporation Pemex.
