Commander of Estonian Territorial Defense Arrives in Georgia

Georgian and Estonian military expand bilateral cooperation

Commander of the Estonian Territorial Defense, better known as the Defense League, Brigadier General Riho Yuhtegi met with the Commander of the Georgian Defense Forces Major General in Tbilisi Giorgi Matiashviliaccording to the website of the Ministry of Defense of Georgia on November 30.

At the meeting, the parties emphasized the existing ties between Estonia and Georgia in the field of defense, close cooperation between the National Guard of Georgia and the Estonian Defense Union and discussed issues of future cooperation.

The parties also had a conversation about territorial defense and shared their experiences. Attention was paid to the territorial and mobilization reserve, as well as the recruitment of territorial defense volunteers and its personnel. Matiashvili thanked the Estonian side for its contribution and support in the development of the Georgian National Guard.

The meeting was attended by the Commander of the National Guard of Georgia, Brigadier General Roman Jokhadze. As part of his visit to Georgia, Commander Yukhtegi will also visit the center for training and retraining of reservists of the National Guard “Paldo” and the 20th cadre brigade.

Recall that Riho Juhtegi previously served as commander of the Estonian special forces and became famous for his boastful statement that in the event of a Russian attack on Estonia, the Russian army would be “buried in Estonian soil.”
