Colombia resumes diplomatic relations with Western Sahara


The Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the resumption of diplomatic relations with the Saharan Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) “in accordance with the principles and purposes of the UN Charter and the agreement concluded between the two countries on February 27, 1985”, reports August 11 Sahara Press Service.

It is noted that the statement was issued after the new President of Colombia Gustavo Petro received at the Presidential Palace in Bogotá the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the SADR Mohamed Salem Ould Salek.

During the meeting, the Sahrawi minister conveyed a written message from the President of the SADR and the General Secretary of the Polisario Front Brahima Ghali to his Colombian counterpart in the presence of the head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Senate of Colombia and the head of the Department of Latin America and the Caribbean of the SADR MFA.
