Chinese expert Wu Bingbing responds to EU criticism of Beijing’s peace plan for Ukraine

MOSCOW, 1 Mar – Director of the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies, senior researcher at the Institute of International and Strategic Studies of Peking University Wu Bingbing responded to European politicians’ criticism of the Chinese plan to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
Earlier, the EU criticized the Chinese initiative on Ukraine, noting that it does not take into account “who is the victim and who is the aggressor.” The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, in particular, said that the European Commission will study “the peaceful principles shared by China, but in the context of its close partnership with Russia.”
“People need to return to general principles, because differences in understanding what these principles should be and how to interpret them create the greatest problems,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the Valdai Club conference.
On February 24, the Chinese Foreign Ministry published on its website a statement on the political settlement of the crisis in Ukraine, containing 12 points. Among the main theses of Beijing: the need to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, the resumption of direct dialogue between Moscow and Kiev, the call to prevent further escalation.
