The Hungarian commander told reporters that “in the current situation, national interests can come to the fore.” At the meeting, the Czech, Slovak and Hungarian military leaders reviewed, among other things, the situation due to the Russo-Ukrainian war and the challenges posed by the entry into service of Battlegroup V4 next year in the EU.

The national armies of the V4 group are open for both joint training and operational cooperation, the Hungarian commander said, noting that the chiefs of staff confirmed that military cooperation in the Visegrad format is a value that must be preserved.

Lieutenant General Rusin-Sendi recalled that V4 cooperation in the field of cyber defense began in 2011 during the Hungarian EU presidency. According to him, this theater of operations will become one of the most important in the future.

In this area, they also would like to strengthen cooperation in the same way as they previously did in other areas, the commander of the Hungarian Armed Forces indicated, adding that they will evaluate who has what capabilities in the field of cyber defense, and how they can use each other’s experience in training. in this domain.

In response to a journalist’s question, Rusin-Sendi also said that they had considered issues related to the planned deployment of forces on NATO’s eastern borders. The final decision on this matter will be made at the NATO summit in Madrid at the end of June 2022, but the V4 military already knows what forces will be deployed on the eastern borders of the alliance.

In connection with the crisis in Ukraine, General Rusin-Sendi expressed his conviction that the Hungarian people are safe. The Hungarian Armed Forces are serving their most important purpose: protecting the Hungarian people, just like that is one of NATO’s missions, he added.

The chiefs of staff of the armed forces of the V4 countries met with students on Tuesday at the Innovation Center of the University of Debrecen. They intended to encourage young people to come up with more new ideas and innovative solutions that could be used in military technology in the future.
