Chief Infectious Diseases Doctor of Georgia to leave his post


    Head of the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention of Georgia Amiran Gamkrelidze resigned, according to the Georgian TV channel Mtavari Arkhi on August 5.

    Journalists have learned that Gamkrelidze plans to make a statement on Monday. Gamkrelidze himself does not answer phone calls, and the Georgian Ministry of Health does not officially confirm the resignation of the head of the center.

    What prompted this decision is currently unknown.

    Recall that Amiran Gamkrelidze, who defended his doctoral dissertation in Moscow, headed the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention since 2013, and in 2001-2003 he served as Minister of Labour, Health and Social Protection of Georgia.
