Margarita Pavlova, a member of the Federation Council from the Chelyabinsk region, believes that it is necessary to adopt a law on bioethics and biosafety in Russia. In her opinion, it is also necessary to create bioethical committees, which will include doctors, representatives of the clergy, the public, lawyers, and experts.

“Global developments in the field of genetics, biological safety and medicine inspire healthy concerns. Now they are on the verge of interfering with the very essence of human existence, the foundations of civilization, divine design and natural evolutionary processes. Dangerous experiments, of course, go under the guise of human rights rhetoric, sparkling human values, for example, editing the human genome in the embryonic period is under the slogan of eliminating incurable hereditary diseases,” Pavlova wrote in her telegram channel following the round table on biosecurity, which passed at the National Research Center “Kurchatov Institute”.

She added that many scientists and experts agree that the modern world is teetering on the brink of a biological threat. One of the components of the threat is genetic and biological technologies.
