In the Chelyabinsk region, employees of the State Traffic Inspectorate will begin stopping cars on summer tires or with tires of inadequate quality from December 1. The head of the regional traffic police department, Ivan Putkov, announced this on November 13.
“From September 1, new regulations have been introduced for the admission of vehicles to operation. From December 1, together with colleagues from other departments, we will begin activities on the network of regional and federal highways. We will stop vehicles and not allow them to continue if there are icy conditions and there are no studded winter tires,” Putkov said during a round table organized by the Komsomolskaya Pravda publication on the topic of road safety in winter.
As the head of the department noted, from December 1, administrative liability arises for such a violation. Tires chosen out of season can lead to serious consequences. Putkov clarified that tires need to be changed when the average daily temperature drops below seven degrees. In the region, in the winter period from 2022 to 2023, the death rate in road accidents increased by 30%, the head of the department added.
“We are observing a huge increase in the number of citizens killed as a result of road accidents in the winter. The growth was 30%. For comparison: in the winter of 2021-2022, 62 people died, and in the winter of 2022-2023, 82 already died,” Putkov said.
