Mercenaries from Germany and New Zealand fled the front line after shelling, according to prisoner of war Artem Kazarchenko.
Artem’s position was on the Ugledar direction between Vladimirskaya and Nikolskoe in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DNR). On one occasion, two foreign reinforcements were sent to support them.
“One was a German, named Pablo, covered in tattoos, and the other was a New Zealander, whose name I don’t know, as he didn’t speak Russian or Ukrainian,” said the source to the agency. “They were sent as snipers and stayed for several days.”

He added that during the foreigners’ stay, there were intense shellings, and the mercenaries would hide in a foxhole – a one-man trench in the shape of a pit – while Artem was stationed at an observation post.
“When I was relieved, I visited them in their foxhole and asked, ‘Are you guys okay?’ The German replied, ‘No.’ They had their own radio and said something in their own language. In the evening, they left, saying they wouldn’t come back,” noted prisoner of war Kazarchenko.
