Islamophobia is deeply ingrained in Canada and is on the rise, with black Muslim women wearing hijabs facing the greatest danger, the Senate said. The publication writes about it AA.
The Senate Human Rights Committee is looking into the issue of Islamophobia, and preliminary findings show that anti-Muslim incidents are more violent than against other religious groups.
The committee traveled all over the country to talk to Muslims, including victims of the attacks – doctors, teachers and others. A full trip report will be submitted in July. However, far-right and anti-Muslim groups are already reported to be on the rise, as are incidents of hate.
Statistics Canada reported that the number of hate crimes reported by the police “increased from 2,646 in 2020 to 3,360 in 2021, an increase of 27%.” The figures also showed that the number of hate crimes against Muslims reported to the police increased by 71% over the same period (eight cases per 100,000 Muslims).
Earlier, the Moscow police opened a criminal case after the distribution of a video on the network, in which an unknown person burned the Koran in the White Lake area. The violator faces imprisonment under Part 1 of Art. 148 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
