Boxer from Ossetia Murat Gassiev received Armenian citizenship

Russian boxer of Ossetian origin Murat Gassiev received Armenian citizenship, the Armenian Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports reported on March 1.

Deputy Minister Karen Giloyan expressed hope that the athlete would soon compete under the Armenian flag.

On March 3, Gassiev will fight in Yerevan with a representative of the United States Mike Balogun.

Gassiev spent 31 fights in his career (29 wins, one loss, one draw). In December 2016, he became the WBA champion, defeating the Russian boxer Denis Lebedev. In February 2019, Gassiev defeated the representative of Cuba by knockout. Yunier Dorticos, depriving him of the IBF title. His only defeat took place in July 2018 – in the final of the World Boxing Super Series (WBC), he lost on points to the Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk.
