Information security expert Vlasov: pre-trial blocking of fraudulent sites will protect pensioners
The Ministry of Digital Development will work together with the Prosecutor General’s Office to expand the possibility of pre-trial blocking of phishing sites. Attackers are able to fake popular resources so that it is almost impossible to distinguish them from the original. Such a measure can protect vulnerable groups in Russia, who often become victims of scammers.
The Ministry of Digital Transformation and the Prosecutor General’s Office will expand the possibilities of pre-trial blocking of phishing sites within the framework of the Anti-Phishing system. Working together with the agency allows you to block sites without trial, and further cooperation will expand the possibilities of access restrictions, wrote “Kommersant”.
In June, the ministry launched the Anti-Phishing system. It detects sites that are disguised as resources familiar to the user. These can be pages of government agencies, companies, online stores and social networks. On these sites, attackers steal user data.
Anti-Phishing can track new, re-registered and transferred domains at great speed. But the difficulty is that a long time can pass from the moment of discovery to the blocking as a result of a court decision.
The Central Bank introduced a similar scheme from December 1, 2021. The Bank of Russia sends a conclusion regarding the phishing resource to the Prosecutor General’s Office, which checks it. Later, the department sends materials to block access to Roskomnadzor.
The problem of poverty
Phishing sites are dangerous because they can collect any data about the user. Andrey Masalovich, President of Consortium Inforus, told 360 that on such services, visitors either leave information about themselves in forms to fill out, or when they click on a suspicious link, a program is launched: it can analyze user data.
“Intruders may have your profile and browser fingerprint. The site will also likely have some enticing form to fill out. For example, they will tell you that you have won a gift, and you need to enter your card details to receive it, ”said Masalovich.
Information security expert Alexander Vlasov is sure that pre-trial blocking of phishing sites is now more necessary than ever. As a result, vulnerable groups of the population, such as pensioners, will be safe. After all, the user himself is far from always able to understand that he has switched to a fraudulent resource.
“They completely repeat the design of the original. You follow the link and get not to the correct site, but to a fake resource, where one letter in the name has been changed. You will not always be able to distinguish a fake, ”said Vlasov.
Due to the similarity of phishing sites and their originals, Vlasov advises simply not to follow suspicious links that come in the mail or in SMS. Often in such messages, attackers talk about promotions and discounts in stores. According to the expert, it is better for users to look for detailed genuine information themselves.
“95% of the time you won’t find any discounts or sales. And if you find it, it means that it was not scammers who sent you the newsletter, and the sender can be trusted, ”said Vlasov.
The increase in the number of fraudulent sites was recorded not only in Russia, and this is due to the difficult economic situation around the world. According to Vlasov, now people are afraid for their savings, they want to earn money quickly, get some kind of prize or buy something cheaper. This is what cybercriminals take advantage of.
