US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that Washington would not mind if the Ukrainian army continues to use Western weapons in the territories of Ukraine, which may become part of Russia following referendums. Mr. Blinken called the holding of referendums “annexation”.
“We and many other countries have already made it quite clear: we will never really recognize the annexation of Ukrainian territories by Russia. And I also spoke equally clearly that Ukraine has the absolute right to defend itself throughout its entire territory, including to regain the territory that was illegally seized in one way or another by Russia,” Anthony Blinken said at a press conference with the Foreign Minister India by Subramanyam Jaishankar (quote from TASS).
He added that weapons and military equipment provided to Ukraine by Western countries are being used “very effectively” in order to return the territories. According to the US Secretary of State, the Ukrainian military has shown good results in the south and northeast of Ukraine.
Referendums ended today in the territories of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions of Ukraine, controlled by the Russian army, as well as in the Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics. In the LPR, 98% of the referendum participants voted for joining Russia, 87% in the Kherson region, and 93% in the Zaporozhye region. For the DPR, only 56.85% of protocols were processed. 94.75% of the participants voted for joining Russia.
