Blinken said there are positive elements in China’s plan for a settlement in Ukraine

MOSCOW, 1 Mar — China’s proposals to resolve the situation in Ukraine have positive aspects, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said.

In his opinion, if Beijing was serious about the proposed plan, it should have helped Kyiv all last year.

On February 24, the Chinese Foreign Ministry published on its website a statement on the political settlement of the crisis in Ukraine, containing 12 points. Among the main theses of Beijing: the need to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, the resumption of direct dialogue between Moscow and Kiev, as well as a call to prevent further escalation.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, commenting on the Chinese initiative, said that Beijing did not offer a basis for resolving the situation, but outlined its thoughts.

As spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted, the Kremlin was attentive to the plan proposed by China. According to him, Moscow will study its details, this is a long and stressful process.

China’s proposals on global security are similar to Russia’s position, said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova. The diplomat added that it is too early to talk about joint steps in terms of the practical implementation of Beijing’s proposals.
