Biden says Nashville shooter had two AK-47s and reiterates call for assault weapon ban

US President Joe Biden called on Congress to take action on gun control following the Nashville school shooting. Biden said the shooter reportedly had two AK-47s (Kalashnikov assault rifles). The President of the United States again called for a ban on assault weapons.

“It is reported that the shooter had two assault weapons and a pistol – two AK-47s. Therefore, I again call on Congress to pass my assault weapons ban,” said Joe Biden (quoted from Morningstar).

The AP reports that the 28-year-old suspect had two assault rifles and a handgun. Authorities said the woman who killed the three children and three adults was a former student and resident of Nashville, her motive has not yet been established. The shooting took place at the Covenant Presbyterian School. The tragedy took about 14 minutes to unfold, with police receiving the first call about an active shooter at 10:13 a.m., AP reported. She was shot dead by the police.

Biden has repeatedly called for a ban on assault weapons. In 2022, he called for this in June, July and November. The question of whether the AK is an assault rifle or an assault rifle, causes controversy.
