US President Joe Biden has signed an executive order to scale up coronavirus vaccinations, CNN reports. The new rules will affect, among other things, federal employees, medical personnel and employees of large companies.
“The vaccination requirements in my plan will affect approximately 100 million Americans – two-thirds of all employed in the country,” – said the US President during his address, which was broadcast on Twitter by the White House.
According to him, vaccination will become mandatory for all employees of federal departments, as well as their contractors. Joe Biden also instructed the US Department of Labor to require all companies with more than 100 employees to get all workers vaccinated or tested for COVID-19 weekly.
In addition, the president said that 300,000 teachers in federal Head Start programs should be vaccinated. Also, vaccinations are required for 17 million healthcare workers in institutions receiving funds from Medicare and Medicaid.
