US President Joe Biden congratulated Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his re-election as President of Turkey. Mr. Biden expressed his readiness to continue cooperation with Mr. Erdogan as “with a NATO ally.”

“Congratulations to President Erdogan on his re-election. I am ready to continue working with him, a NATO ally, on bilateral and international issues,” Joe Biden said on his Twitter page.

At the office of the Turkish President confirmed the fact of the conversation between Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Joe Biden, specifying that during the conversation the American president “wished that the results of the last presidential elections were favorable for the Turkish people.” In addition, Joe Biden and Recep Tayyip Erdogan “agreed to develop cooperation on all issues between the two countries in the new period.”

Recep Tayyip Erdogan won the second round of Turkish presidential elections by a margin of 4%. He bypassed the single candidate from the Turkish opposition, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. 52% of voters voted for the incumbent leader, 48% for his opponent.
