US President Joe Biden said that the American nation has one “truly sacred” duty – the preparation of those whom the United States sends to the battlefield, as well as caring for them and their families. Mr. Biden said this during a speech at a ceremony dedicated to Memorial Day.
Memorial Day is the national day of remembrance in the United States. It is dedicated to the memory of American military personnel who have died in all wars and armed conflicts in which the United States has ever taken part. Memorial Day is celebrated every year on the last Monday in May.
“As a nation we have many obligations, but I believe with every fiber of my being that we have only one truly sacred thing – to prepare those we send to the battlefield, to care for them and their families when they return home and when there is nothing … There is nothing more important, more holy, more American, ”said the president (quoted from CBS News).
During the Memorial Day ceremony, Joe Biden laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery outside Washington. Also attending the event were First Lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley.
